Game Sales Strategy

Business! business! business! A strategy coming from game developers. This is by adding some additional content at launch (in-game discs/DLC's) or an online pass (access code) in a form of voucher redeemable for free when you purchase newly released games.

Launch DLC's are downloadable contents(DLC) such as costumes, additional character, map packs, mini games or prequels available for a limited time which makes you purchase the game on day one. Wherein such DLC's can only be seen in collectors edition.

Example:

Mass Effect2 - Free Terminus Gear at launch. After February 23, you will need to pay in order to use it.

On the other hand online pass is a game specific one-time use codes to be used for playing multi-player online. Purchase a used game with redeemed online pass (yey! It's cheap!) but the bad news is! you'll have to pay an additional $10 if you want to play online.

Example:

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - The online pass grants you access to online multi-player modes plus, two exclusive cars (LP-570-4 Superleggera and LP-550-2 Valentino Balboni Lamborghini's) and more storage space for your in game photo's.

This move is to discourage gamers from purchasing a used game or waiting for a greatest hits version of the game which is way cheaper.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo's 4th generation handheld gaming console after Gameboy, Gameboy Advance and the Nintendo DS is now on 3D. The Nintendo 3DS!

It requires no special glasses in order to see the 3D effect or play it entirely on 3D, with the use of the 3D depth slider you can control its depth or switch off the 3D effect. Please see official site or watch the virtual tour below for more details.

About its price and release date? It will be on March 27, 2011 and priced at $249 which I think is too steep for a handheld device.

Is the Nindtendo 3DS worth buying? It depends on your gaming taste; but for me, the Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition alone made me save money for a first day purchase.
